Deserving its own page, is an explanation for the title of this blog.
I had been wanting to start a blog when my baby was born. But I could not come up with a title. Yes, it was that important. I had things to write about, but nowhere to put them, and all because I couldn’t think of a title. When my son was 5 months old, it finally came to me. On a particularly balmy night, when he would have been cranky were we not dancing around and singing Raffi, an old favorite played:
“oats and beans and barley grow,
oats and beans and barley grow,
you or I or anyone know,
how oats and beans and barley grow.”
Catchy, right? And fitting. We eat oats and beans and barley. We grow stuff too. In fact…we are also growing a baby. So “Oats and Beans and Baby Grow” was born*.
If you’d like to listen to the tune, you can find it here. We listened to a lot of Raffi when I was a kid. His Christmas tape (yes, tape, my mother still has a cassette player in her car) is still a staple. I even went to see him in concert when I was 3. Simon doesn’t listen to any kids’ music yet, but we all, kids and adults, can rock out to Raffi.
So 2 months later, we finally got it together, and a blog began to grow.
*Official apologies to the barley, for getting cut from the blog title.
* I like baby better than barley anyway. And Raffi is still a favorite of mine.
